A sense of belonging is what holds together our social structures, whether it is the family, a sporting club, a church fellowship, or the idea of neighbourhood. And that is before we get to the obvious matter of national pride. Relationships provide the grounds for attributing meaning to our existence. Without a sense of meaning we are restless. The creation account in Genesis 1 defines human beings by relationships.
